Duchamp on Tape: The Janis Family Interviews – Paperback

In September 1951 Marcel Duchamp sat down with the art collectors and gallerists Harriet and Sidney Janis and their son Carroll for the first of a series of informal interviews. Their conversations, which spanned six recording sessions over the next fifteen months, touch on the artist’s life, work, and philosophy, from his early paintings through the birth of Dada to the controversial works that changed art as we know it. This material, gathered here for the first time, gives us Duchamp at his most fluid: at ease with his longtime friends, by turns chatty and provocative-and about to become the most notorious artist of the twentieth century. 176 pages, 90 illustrations.
